DAP central leaderships failed to heed grassroots voices

DAP central leaderships failed to heed grassroots voices

Press statement by
Gerakan Deputy President
Dato’ Dr. Cheah Soon Hai

With regards to Sabah and Sarawak DAPs’ decision to severe ties with state Pakatan Rakyat and PAS, Gerakan Deputy President Dato’ Dr. Cheah Soon Hai questioned why DAP central leadership failed to heed grassroots voices of its own members leaving state DAPs to take matters into their own hands? He believed that decision by the Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng father-and-son team “to end ties and cease to work” with PAS President Hadi Awang was not acknowledged by its own members as it was clearly no more than a shenanigan for political expediency. In this sense, he was of the opinion that Penang and Selangor DAPs should emulate its Sarawak counterpart to stay true and heed voices of grassroots by quitting Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and severe ties with PAS.

“Was the recent twist in Sabah and Sarawak DAP showed that there was a crack within DAP with failure to reach consensus between the central and East Malaysia leadership? I hope the DAP central leadership would not pawn the future of the nation and public interests just because of their own inability and cowardice to stand up against PAS, they must not hoodwink the people for petty political gains,” said Cheah

Cheah questioned whether DAP is now effectively endorsing “one-party-two-system”? He described the latest incident involving DAP in East Malaysia severing ties with state PR and PAS was a slap in the face to DAP central leadership which warrants response from the top. Do they also agree it is alright for the nation to have parallel criminal systems?

“Penang and Selangor DAPs must be responsible for their voters as well as their own members. They should stop the petty politicking and solve the real problem.”
