In referring to the news report today about the situation on which the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STMP) 4.0 top students are not given the first choice course by the MOHE has worsened over last year, Gerakan Youth Secretary General Dr. Dominic Lau holds that it is necessary for the MOE to give a reasonable explanation and account on why such a serious situation is happening and mostly involving the Chinese students, otherwise the public especially the parents will be unconvinced at all.
"It is reported that a majority of 4.0 students not only fail to get their preferred course, most of them are even given the fourth or other choices. It has been a blow to the top students, especially students from the poor families on which the admission failure into preferred course is hard to take. Government should sympathize the people's burden, especially students from the poor families are determined to score an excellent STPM result in order to be admitted into preferred course in the university, therefore the government must look seriously on their request and make reasonable arrangements." Dr. Dominic Lau said.
In addition, Dr. Dominic also calls upon the MOHE to make public the selection system and guidelines of course allocation in public university to prove its fairness. For students unsuccessful in securing a place in the university or failed to be admitted into preferred course and plan to file an appeal to the MOHE, they can seek help from Gerakan Headquarter by call to Tel: 03-9287 6868 .
