Gerakan Youth protests Kedah govt's new housing policy
THE Kedah Gerakan Youth today protested the state government's move to introduce a new housing policy that prohibits outsiders from owning properties in Kuala Muda and Kulim.
Its chief, Tan Keng Liang, said the policy was expected to be announced before the next session of the State Legislative Assembly scheduled to begin in middle of this month.
He said under the policy, the land and district offices in the two constituencies would be given the authority to approve property acquisitions made only by Kedahans and residents in the two constituencies.
"The new policy made by the state government is illogical and unheard of. Why other people (from other states) cannot be allowed to own properties in Kedah? They are Malaysians too. This matter needs to be reviewed by the state government before making the policy," he told reporters here today.
Meanwhile, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak when commenting the issue, said that he was not informed about the new policy.
"We never say anything (about the new housing policy)... but, is it wrong if the state government introduces a policy to protect the people's interests?
"Housing developers can continue to build houses, but please give priority to affordable homes because we are concerned about the people's interests," he told reporters when met after chairing the state executive council meeting here.
