Dr. Cheah: Set up IPCMC to investigate the truth of the incident

            In referring to the police brutality on reporters in the BERSIH 428 rally, Kedah Gerakan Chairman cum Derga State Assemblyman Dr. Cheah Soon Hai wants to express his dissatisfaction on the issue. He pointed out that, the police are supposed to protect the citizens, but incidents of police assaults on reporters have since broken out, which is really regrettable.

 
 

            Dr. Cheah who is also the Chief of Gerakan Central Bureau on Environment, Safety and Quality of Life said that the police brutality on reporters is becoming more serious simply because police assaults on ordinary people are common in the society, people already held grudges and discontented, therefore the government is bound to investigate the truth of the incident.

 
 

            "The government should set up IPCMC and solemnly investigate the complaints received on 428, including whether the police have acted violently against the public and media. Besides, through the IPCMC, the government is able to carry out investigation on power abuse and corruption cases that involve the police in the society, which is in line with the political transformation advocated by the Prime Minister," said Dr. Cheah.

 
 

            Dr. Cheah urges the government to carry out investigation on all of the violence reported on 428, not to let the perpetrators go unpunished, while at the same time seek justice for the victims.

针对警方于净选盟428大集会中暴力对待记者一事，吉打州民政党主席兼德卡区州议员谢顺海医生表示不满。他指出，警方本应保护市民，但如今却发生了殴打记者事件，这是令人感到遗憾的。

 
 

也是环境、安全与生活素质局主任的谢顺海医生指出，这次警方暴力对待记者一事越演越烈，是因为民间也常发生警方打人事件，人民心中早有芥蒂，心中不满，所以势必要政府彻查事情真相。

 
 

谢顺海说："政府应设立独立警察投诉与行为不检委员会（IPCMC），严正彻查428当天所接获的投诉，包括警方是否以暴力对待公众与媒体。此外，通过此委员会，政府也可调查民间所有警察滥权及贪污舞弊案，而这也能达致首相一直所提倡的政治转型。"

 
 

谢顺海医生呼吁政府调查428当天所有发生的暴力案件，不让逞凶者逍遥法外，同时也还受害者一个公道。
