The answer is no.
He said, being one of the few higher institutions in Kedah, UUM has been producing talents from different races, thus providing many professionals and human resource for various sectors, and it is a University which Kedahan are proud of. UUM has a total of 30 thousand students, lecturers and administrative staff, it is undeniable that the institute has helped to promote and maintain the local economy, however, it is very much regrettable that the Kedah government is disregarding the fact and imposing such high quit rent on the university.Just imagine each of individual will to spend RM20 per day,the turnover is RM600000 per day. This will spin 8 times in economic calculation. How about convocation time in each year,Thousands of proud parents and loved ones will visit Kedah. Many of them are the first timer to Kedah, they tend to take this opportunity to explore Kedah. This is definitely helping our local tourism industry. The hotel, food and transport sector is definitely benifit a lot on the convocation period.
Therefore it is appropriate for the state government just to charge a symbolic amount like RM100000 per year for the quit rent.
Whereas in KUIN case,it is totally defferent. The state government through its subsiary company has to take the loan of RM320 million to finance the development.Kedah state has given 1000 acres of land for the building of its new campus in Kuala Ketil. It is unwise to expand KUIN to a full pledge University without proper planning. The interest on the loan already amount to RM500000 per month.Kedah state government is just simple does not the mean to maintain an international full pledge university.KUIN should stick to its four courses originally, expansion of the courses should be done systemically and according to financial capacity.
I would like to stress that I am not against the Islamic university, just the expansion plan is becoming a burden to Kedahans and state government .
